The underpaid policemen sought to raise their wages by forming a union. The police commissioner suspended the leaders of the unionization movement, and the police went out on strike. Governor Coolidge is shown bringing in additional troops during the strike. 1:48:56 Coolidge became the Vice - President on March 4, 1921 under Warren G. Harding. When the President died in 1923, Coolidge was appointed President. 1:49:09 Between 1920 and 1925 the population of Florida increased four times faster than that of any other state. The real estate boom reached its peak in 1925 and then collapsed in the spring of 1926. Land values dropped, banks failed, and many personal fortunes were lost leading to "Tin Can Tourists". In 1929 Smith was succeeded as the governor of New York by Franklin D. Roosevelt who is shown in the news story helping the campaign. The Ku Klux Klan attended the convention to support John W. Bailey. 1:54:30 In 1924 the Ku Klux Klan marched in Washington D.C. without their hoods, and claimed that they were the only true Americans 1:55:10 Scopes Trial, in 1925, in Dayton, Tennessee, of a high school biology teacher who taught the theory of evolution. The teacher, John T. Scopes was accused of having violated a law that forbade the teaching of the theory of evolution in public schools because it contradicted the account of creation in the Bible. Clarence Darrow, one of America's leading criminal lawyers, appeared for the defense, and former U.S. secretary of state William Jennings Bryan for the prosecution. 1:56:52 The development of planes led to the U.S. airmail utilizing bi-planes for delivering the mail, Navy Sea planes crossing the Atlantic, a German Zeppelin is shown flying over Chicago as it crosses America and unfortunately disaster as the U.S. Navy dirigible the Shenandoah, the first zeppelin-type airship of entirely American construction in September 1925 was completely wrecked in a windstorm, with the loss of 14 crew members. 1:58:06 Charles Lindbergh decided to compete for a prize offered in 1919 for the first nonstop transatlantic solo flight between New York City and Paris. In his single-engine monoplane, Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh left Roosevelt Field at 7:52 AM on May 20, 1927. After a flight of 33 hours 32 minutes, he landed near Paris. The Cavalry was brought in to stop the riot and the veterans that were killed were buried with military honor. 2:07:27 Farmers tried to strike so that they could get a fair price for their produce, but because of the depression they wound up trading for other groceries, gasoline and movie tickets. 2:07:57 Over 9 Million people were out of work 2:08:19 Homeless lived in shacks and had to survive on the ration that they got in foodlines 2:09:02 People believed that if Franklin D.
