Flying Off A Pleasure Pier 1) At a pier in Venice, California a plane takes off from a long pier and goes out over the ocean. 2) Shot of dare - devil pilot Frank Clark prior to the flight. Pathe Cameramen Take Off Attached To The Martin Bomber 1) The Martin Bomber -- a World War I military plane takes off with two cameramen, one is attached to the top wing and the other is attached to the bottom wing. 2) A great shot is shown of the plane's cockpit. 3) Footage taken from another plane shows the bomber flying over a river. 4) On the way to the air target field the bomber flies over the graveyard of the fleet, where many ships have resided since World War I. 5) The bomber takes off again, this time pulling a long wind sleeve. 6) Getting in range of the target, the gunner in the nose of the plane prepares for action as he loads the gun with ammunition. 7) The planes guns are fired out over the ocean. 8) A shot of the plane filmed from over - head show the plane in action. Plane Lowers Above World's Greatest Oil Fire 1) In San Luis Obispo, California a Pathe cameraman ascends into a huge piller of smoke and fire as a oil refinery burns. 2) The magnitude of the disaster is shown from the air, this film was toned in an orange color to add a dramatic effect. Fonck Plane In Fatal Crash 1) The planes mechanic and radio operator are burnt to death when the aircraft caught on fire prior to a New York to Paris flight. 2) In this dramatic newstory the plane is first shown taking off, after having to wait for several days for favorable weather. 3) After crashing to the ground, Fonck and another escaped but the other two men could not and they were left to burn inside of the plane. 4) The plane is shown on fire as people saddly watch it burn. 5) The radio operator is shown in some footage prior to the tragedy. Norge Flies Over Pole and Enters Unknown Arctic 1) The flight over the North Pole was made in the dirigible Norge which was designed and built by Umberto Nobile with the support of the Italian goverment. 2) The captain of the expedition was the Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen who became the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911. 3) Lincoln Ellsworth, an American explorer who was second in command of the flight is also shown in the film. 4) An animated map shows the route that the dirigible took during the flight of more than 70 hours from Spitsbergen, Norway to Teller, Alaska. 5) Footage is shown of Amundsen's previous attempt in May 1925 to fly over the North Pole. The explorers and four others took off from Svalbard in two amphibious airplanes but were forced to land just short of the pole. 6) When Amundsen returned home in 1925 he was greeted by diplomats and crowds of people still came out to welcome the explorer. 7) At the dirigible launching a woman is shown breaking a bottle of champagne against the aircraft and premier-dictator of Italy Benito Mussolini extends good wishes to the explorers. 8) Group shot of the explorers and crew. 9) The dirigible is shown taking off and flying over Rome as it begins the journey. 10) Interior shots of the aircraft and footage of the explorers prior to departure. 11) End Title with trademark Rooster. Lightning Explodes World's Largest Oil Reserves 1) Huge tanks containing over 4,000,000 gallons of oil explode into mountains of fire. 2) As huge clouds of smoke and fire pour over the fields a cameraman is shown setting up to film the incident. 3) At the time this was the worst fire in oil refinery history and represented a loss of $20,000,000. 4) Many farms in the vicinity were threatened and footage includes smoke and fire coming close to barns and houses. 5) Footage of the fire at night distinctly shows the flames.
