Record number 114703^Reel 1 Only 1) Title card "It was for Soviet explorers to conquer the Artic." 2) Plane is shown flying over ice and snow, then landing. 3) Title card "March 22, 1937 five great planes were ready for the expedition to the North Pole." 4) Professor Otto Schmidt is shown with pilots of the planes and other soviets. 5) A Soviet newreel cameraman canks his movie camera to record the historical expedition. 6) The planes take off and begin flying as some other Soviets wave goodbye. 7) Later in the day the expedition arrives in Holmogory as local people run out to watch the group land. 8) At this point the tires on the planes are changed to skis, and the pilots and explorers put on warmer clothes. 9) The group then takes off into the air again, while in the air a meterologist receives radio transmissions. 10) After flying over the frozen tundra, the group lands and are greeted by people with huskies and sleds. 11) As the day progresses, a storm blows up and the planes wind up being grounded for several days. 12) The planes wind up getting buried in the snow and after the storm stops the men need to dig them out. Once the planes are out of the snow and the engine checked they take off into the air again. 13) Next the explorers stop on Rudolph Island and are able to get to a place where they can do radio transmissions, at this point they need to utilize snow tractors to get supplies on board the planes. 14) The planes are inspected to make sure that they are still in good condition. 15) In a cabin at Rudolph Island the explorers review their plans for the journey. 16) After taking photos of the planes, more supplies are loaded. 17) Another shot of huskies pulling sleds. 18) the Chief Navigator on the expedition puts together an antenna and checks the radio. 19) Two small polar bear cubs come by to play and sniff the explorers.
