Witness, The

Pallet #2^Faded color^On his way from school, Charles, a slightly built, intellectual high school sophomore collides with a much larger boy who is running away from an alley. Little does Charles know that the other boy has just assaulted an elderly woman and stolen her purse. the boys recognize each other, as the purse-snatcher runs off down the street. ^It is only when Charles sees the woman lying unconscious that he realizes what has happened. Although he can provide pertinent information regarding the crime, he slips aways from the gathering crowd and runs home. Later we learn it is not a matter of friendship which prevents Charles from speaking out, but a matter of fear. The purse-snatcher is one of the toughest kids in Charles� school and Charles knows he will be putting himself in jeopardy if he goes to the police. The question for Charles - and for the audience - is what to do?
