Pallet #5^Faded color^People think of South America as an immense, green tropical forest. In reality, it is a land of great variety and harsh contrast. The viewer sees how the Andes Mountains control the climate, life patterns and the character of a good part of South America. On part of the eastern slope of the high Andes lies a region that was, in the past, largely avoided by Incas and Spaniards alike - the Amazon Basin. Here the tropical forest areas are vast, covering almost one-third of the entire continent. The viewer see the flora and fauna of this area, as well as the life style of the few Indian families that live here. LIfe on the desert areas is shown, as well as teh contrasting life styles of people who live on the grassy plains of the Pampas.
